Mayor Wayne Wilson
I have lived and been in business in Oyen for 45 years. My wife Marguerite and I raised one daughter Rae, who now resides in Liverpool, England with her husband Jason Jorgenson, and 3 children – Jared 11, Brooklyn 9, and Kaileigh 7. Previous to my current term as Mayor of Oyen, I was a Councillor from October 1971 to October 1989, and Mayor from October 1989 to October 1998. I have a keen commitment to our community’s growth and development. |
Deputy Mayor Doug Lehman
I joined the Council of the Town of Oyen because I wanted to make a difference. I have been on Council for a total of 19 years with 6 being Mayor and the rest being a Councillor. My most rewarding experience on Council was being a part of the Henry Kroeger Regional Water Commission which provides Oyen with a permanent supply of good water. I am currently a rancher of 120 cows, - 80 Black Angus and 40 Brahma. The Brahma cattle are bred with the hopes of raising a champion bucking bull. I have had some success with my bull, Weight-a-Minute, who was at the CFR in Edmonton and the PBR Canadian Finals in Calgary. My wife Marilyn teaches at SCHS and my daughter Nicole, son-in-law Tyler and grandson Tyrese live in Oyen as well. | Councillor Darrow Tye
I have served on Council since 2001, and have found the experience very rewarding. I am a member of many committees involved with the town such as Personnel Committee, Cemetery Committee, and the Public Works Committee. My wife Carol and I farmed and raised our family in the Oyen district. Upon retirement we moved into Town, where I now keep myself busy in my workshop doing woodworking. I seem to be busier now than I was on the farm, - there never seems to be a slow time with building projects. Carol keeps herself busy working at the Hospital … and helping me. | Councillor Manfred Schroeder
I currently work for Allen’s Agrocentre Ltd. As well my wife and I own and operate Prairie Bells Bed & Breakfast. My interests are in tourism and working with seniors. I previously served six years on council, and took a three year break before returning to council. I sit on the following committees: Canadian Badlands, Buffalo Trail tourist group, Meridian Community Futures, and Big Country Recycling Society. I try to stay involved in the community through many hours of volunteering, including driving the Handy bus, cleaning senior walks of snow, president of the Oyen Lions Club, chairman of Communities in Bloom, and treasurer of Antelope Crime Watch. I love the community of Oyen, and encourage more people to get involved in service clubs and volunteering to experience the satisfaction and pride it gives you. |
Councillor Tom Van Otterloo
I was born and raised in Oyen and have always been proud to call this community my home. I have been owner/operator of a local electrical and refrigeration company, John's Electric, for many years and have seen Oyen undergo many changes during this time and enjoy being part of the process that initiates positive changes and growth. I had served a six year term on council a few years back and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the people I worked with. After a few years off, my family and I decided that we were prepared for me to take another run on town council. We realized that it can be a big time and energy commitment but knew that I was anxious to get involved and assist my town as much as I could. Having four children gives me a unique perspective on the wonderful qualities that rural communities possess and I am proud to be able to hold those values as I work with others and on committees to make Oyen the best that it can be. I look forward to the years ahead and plan to become more involved as my term progresses. |
Councillor Lois Bedwell
I am a Librarian at South Central High School. My husband Roger & I own Roger’s Woodworks, a custom cabinet and furniture shop. We have three grown children and three grandchildren. I am enjoying my first term on Council. During my term I hope to promote community pride to keep Oyen a clean, positive and friendly town. |
Councillor Vicki Christianson I was born and raised in Oyen and have lived here most of my life. I raised three sons. One lives in Oyen and the other two live in the surrounding area. Along, with a grown family comes the great joy of my three grandchildren. I am employed full time as an Office Supervisor at Dry Country Gas Co-op Ltd. I was elected to Town Council in 2007 and have an interest in all areas of the community. I am on the following committees; Community of Opportunities/SAMDA; FCSS; Municipal Planning Commission; Personnel Committee; Pool Landscaping and Recreation Advisory Board.
My vision is for multi-generational families to live, work and play in Oyen. I want to make Oyen a place people will want to stay, not just pass through on there way to somewhere else. (403)664-2531
