Meals on Wheels is a program designed to deliver meals to shut ins, allowing our residents to stay in their homes as long as possible. Usually a person is referred through Community Health services. Recipients receive a nutritious hot meal at noon on weekdays. (Meals are not delivered on weekends or holidays). The program also affords a daily visit from the outside world – for a visit and to ensure all is well. The meal is prepared by the Big Country Hospital kitchen and delivered at noon by a group of volunteers. Cost for the meal is $6.50 per day.
There are various groups of volunteers delivering meals to residents in Oyen. Volunteer groups usually deliver the meals on a monthly basis. If you or your organization would like to volunteer for this worthwhile endeavor, please contact the coordinator, Joan Mick.
