Town Council PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Paul Christianson

I am fifty two years old. I have a wife - Cicelia and two children, Kurt and Deanna. I am the owner of 2 small businesses, Oyen Towing Ltd and Xtra Mile Sales and Rentals. My interests include taking my Bricklin car to car shows and cruising on my chopper motorcycle. I ran for Mayor because I want to try to make a difference. Some of my goals and priorities are to try to pull the community together, try to encourage and retain business, and recruit new physicians. I am looking forward to working together with our new town council to make our town a great place to live.

Councillor Doug Lehman

I joined the Council of the Town of Oyen because I wanted to make a difference. I have been on Council for a total of 19 years with 6 being Mayor and the rest being a Councillor. My most rewarding experience on Council was being a part of the Henry Kroeger Regional Water Commission which provides Oyen with a permanent supply of good water. I am currently a rancher of 120 cows, - 80 Black Angus and 40 Brahma. The Brahma cattle are bred with the hopes of raising a champion bucking bull. I have had some success with my bull, Weight-a-Minute, who was at the CFR in Edmonton and the PBR Canadian Finals in Calgary. My wife Marilyn teaches at SCHS and my daughter Nicole, son-in-law Tyler and grandson Tyrese live in Oyen as well.

Councillor Manfred Schroeder

I currently work for Allen’s Agrocentre Ltd. As well my wife and I own and operate Prairie Bells Bed & Breakfast. My interests are in tourism and working with seniors. I previously served six years on council, and took a three year break before returning to council.

I sit on the following committees: Disaster Services, FCSS, Oyen & District Water Association, Public Works Committee, Meridian Community Futures, and Cemetery Committee as well as being the alternate representative on the Canadian Badlands and Buffalo Trail tourist group. I try to stay involved in the community through many hours of volunteering, including driving the Handy bus, cleaning senior walks of snow, president of the Oyen Lions Club, chairman of Communities in Bloom, and treasurer of Antelope Crime Watch.

I love the community of Oyen, and encourage more people to get involved in service clubs and volunteering to experience the satisfaction and pride it gives you.

Councillor Rudi Brockman

Hi I'm Councillor Rudi Brockmann

The reasons I joined Town Council are;

1: The need was there.
2: To get the surounding Commuities to see Oyen in a more positive light.
3: We need to project Oyen as a good place to do business.

I believe that I have the time to work at doing these projects and if Oyen is going to grow, we need to do this.

Deputy Mayor Lois Bedwell

My husband, Roger and I have three grown children and here is the best; we have six terrific grandchildren! We grew up in Oyen, our children went to school here and we both have a commitment to this community. I have been the school librarian at South Central High School for the past ten years. I firmly believe in education, lifelong learning and community.

This will be my second term on council and I'm really looking forward to the next three years. I hope I can bring fresh ideas and a positive approach to council and the community in order to make this a place our kids will want to call home forever. Our community needs economic growth in order to be sustainable into the future. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or ideas that will move Oyen to be the best place in Alberta to live and raise a family.

Councillor Dennis Punter

Dennis Punter

Thirty two years ago our family lived and worked in Oyen. In July of 2010 we moved back to Oyen to retire and be nearer to the family farm. Our positive past experience drew us back to a community with: friendly people, a good business district, good medical services, a church we helped to establish, and many friends who still living here.

Having had 42 years of administrative and community involvement, we decided the time was right to step forward and lend a hand. A good  town can be made better by vision and good choices by a dedicated town council who work to provide opportunities for others to consider Oyen as home.

Linda and I have 3 children and three grandchildren, some live in  Calgary and some live in Saskatoon. Being half way between offers us the ability to be part of events in their lives. Currently I pastor half time at the Oyen Evangelical Missionary Church.
