Garbage

The Town of Oyen is a member of the Big Country Waste Management Commission that is comprised of the collection of waste materials from 28 transfer stations.  For all up-to-date information, follow the Big Country Waste Management Commission on Facebook.

The Oyen Transfer Station is located south of Oyen on TWP RD 27-4, east of HWY 895. Seasonal Hours: April – October Tuesday (9am to 4pm), Thursday (1pm to 8pm) &Saturday (9am to 4pm) November – March Tuesday (9am to 4pm), Thursday (11am to 6pm) &Saturday (9am to 4pm) Click here for a schedule of all BCWMC sites.

The waste site attendant will direct you to the appropriate area for disposal of all garbage.  Besides the waste transfer station, there are designated areas for batteries, pesticide containers, clean wood products, appliances, etc.

Residents and business owners in the Town of Oyen receive scheduled garbage pickup services. See the map below for the days of garbage pick up by location. Refer to Garbage Bylaw 902-22 for more information.

Recycling

The Town of Oyen strongly encourages residents to recycle materials whenever possible. Do your part in reducing the amount of garbage taken to the landfill.

There are currently three drop off sites for different types of recycling located throughout the community:

COMPOST	RECYCLING	CARBOARD
The Town of Oyen has a compost pile located just East of the Oyen Concrete Facility. Compost reduces the amount of garbage taken to the landfill and is productive for our ecosystem. Grass clippings, leaves, vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, etc	RECYCLING DEPOT  Recycle any container that you pay a deposit fee on, such as your glass and pop beverage containers. Hours: Wed-Fri (9am-2pm) & Sat (8am-2pm) There are also outdoor drop-off bins available 24/7 along the back alley.	All cardboard is to be flattened, and recycled in the bins at the Oyen Transfer Station (see above). Hours: Tuesday (9am to 4pm), Thursday (1pm to 8pm) &Saturday (9am to 4pm)
